Lumber Manufacturer Fined $53,866 After Fatal Forklift Injury

OSHA has proposed $53,866 in penalties to Sunbelt Forest Products LLC after a 45-year-old worker suffered fatal injuries from a forklift while walking across an Alabama lumber shipping yard, according to the Department of Labor Monday.

The Labor Department said Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigators cited Sunbelt Forest Products LLC for exposing workers to struck-by hazards such as allowing employees to walk out of sight of forklift drivers, not distinguishing shipping department travel aisles, not requiring forklift drivers to keep a clear view of the driving path, and not removing damaged forklifts from service.
