Idled Texas Refineries Prepare for Hurricane Laura’s Landfall

As Hurricane Laura barrels toward Southeast Texas, idled refineries, an ongoing global pandemic, and the memory of the 2017 Arkema SA chemical plant disaster are looming concerns for companies and communities in the area.

Hurricane Laura is expected to come ashore Thursday along the Texas-Louisiana coast as a “catastrophic” Category 4 storm. It would be the first major system to hit the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Michael in 2018.
