An updated list of about 200 hazardous drugs health-care workers should avoid exposure to is now available, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health said Oct. 6.
The drugs include those for chemotherapy, antiviral treatments, hormones and some bio-engineered drugs, the guide says.
The 36-page guide explains each drug’s potential dangers and offers advice on personal protective gear and engineering controls to protect workers.
Among the 34 drugs new to the list are the anti-psychotic paliperidone; methimazole, used to treat hyperthyroidism; and the cancer treatments vismodegib and belinostat.
