As of Oct. 1, Hawaii’s state workplace safety agency will resume responsibility for inspections at manufacturing sites, the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Sept. 13.
The state will resume manufacturing inspections at the start of fiscal 2014 as the next step in the phaseout of federal OSHA’s day-to-day role in inspecting Hawaiian workplaces. At the state’s request in October 2012, federal OSHA took on a greater role in state inspections (42 OSHR 865, 9/27/12).
