E-Scooter Use Fueling Employers’ Safety Concerns

Electric scooters cruising city streets and sidewalks with brand names such as Lime, Bird, and Lyft could pose a liability for companies allowing workers to ride the e-scooters for business travel, risk advisers and attorneys are warning.

The primary concern is with workers using the e-scooters for traveling between offices, meetings, and assignments while on company time, liability attorney Michael Manfredi, with Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP in Atlanta, told Bloomberg Law.

Risk concerns led Duke Energy Corp. to prohibit its 6,000 workers in downtown Charlotte, N.C., from using e-scooters for company business, company spokesman Neil Nissan told ...
