Coronavirus Threat Prompts California Worker Health Mandates

California hospitals and other health-care facilities must take new precautions to prevent the coronavirus from spreading among their workers, the state’s workplace safety regulator told the industry.

“It’s beyond what we require for the seasonal flu,” Eric Berg, deputy chief of research and standards at the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), said in an interview.

There were 11 confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. and five in Canada, with no deaths, as of Feb. 5, according to the World Health Organization. Worldwide, 24,554 people have contracted the virus, with all but 191 of the cases in China. ...
