The U.S. Chemical Hazard and Safety Investigation Board is weighing whether to deploy to a chemical fire at a Louisiana manufacturing facility damaged during Hurricane Laura.
At 3 p.m. Thursday, Lawrenceville, Georgia-based Biolab Inc. confirmed on its website an ongoing fire at its Lake Charles, La., facility. The damage comes after the hurricane made landfall early Thursday morning along the Texas-Louisiana coast as a “catastrophic” Category 4 storm. It is the first major system to hit the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Michael in 2018.
