Hurricane-Related Chemical Fire Examined by U.S. Safety Board

The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board is surveying damage caused by a chlorine fire that began last week after Hurricane Laura swept across the Lake Charles, La., facility of swimming pool products maker BioLab Inc.

The fire caused significant damage to the roof of the company’s warehouse after the Category 4 storm made landfall along the Texas-Louisiana coast early Aug. 27, according to a CSB news release issued late Monday. CSB investigators arrived at the site two days later to begin their investigation, and conducted a perimeter tour to survey the damage, the release said.
