California on Verge of Enacting Indoor Worker Heat Protections

California workers could soon be protected by a state indoor heat rule before summer officially begins.

The indoor heat rule is set for a vote Thursday by the state’s Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board, and if approved may take effect by June 1.

California would join Minnesota and Oregon as the only states to have adopted indoor heat standards that apply to all industries. The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration is developing a federal indoor and outdoor standard, but has yet to release a version of the standard for public comment.
