California employers would have to offer respirators to protect workers from wildfire smoke when air quality hits a lower threshold under a proposed rule change.
The possible changes also would open the door to discussions on minimum air filter effectiveness requirements for buildings and vehicles.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health Aug. 13 released the “discussion draft” of a proposed permanent rule for what employers must do when wildfire smoke reaches unhealthy levels.
The permanent rule would replace an emergency rule set to expire Jan. 28, 2020.
