Zimmer Biomet plans to appeal a Missouri federal court jury’s $21 million compensatory award on behalf of a woman who alleged she was seriously harmed by metal-on-metal hip prostheses, the company said Thursday.
The jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri Wednesday awarded zero punitive damages to Mary and Philip Bayes. The jury had awarded compensatory damages in October but the amount, $20 million to Mary Bayes and $1 million to her husband, wasn’t immediately made public.
