WWE Wins Sanctions, Dismissals of Three Concussion Cases

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. won dismissal of several concussion cases brought on behalf of former professional wrestlers after the federal judge overseeing the mass litigation sanctioned a plaintiffs’ attorney for failing to follow court orders and filing frivolous claims and excessively long complaints.

The Sept. 17 ruling by Judge Vanessa L. Bryant of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut ends three former wrestlers’ efforts to pursue their suits alleging the WWE knew that repeated head trauma in the ring could cause a degenerative brain illness known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.
