Williams-Sonoma Inc. has agreed to pay a $987,500 civil penalty and to put in place a compliance program to settle allegations of safety reporting violations related to the sale of Pottery Barn hammocks, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said May 6.
The company is the second in recent months to agree to implement certain internal controls and procedures to resolve alleged CPSC violations.
Commissioner Nord worries the settlement reflects a shift in agency policy and points toward de facto rulemaking.
