Weyerhaeuser, International Paper Face Asbestos Fire Door Claims

International Paper Co. and Weyerhaeuser Co. will face claims that their asbestos fire doors were a substantial contributing cause of a man’s mesothelioma, a Pennsylvania appeals court ruled.

The estate of Leon Lamson Jr. presented enough evidence that he was exposed to asbestos while working on doors manufactured by the companies to proceed with the claims, the Pennsylvania Superior Court said May 22 in an unpublished decision. It reversed a state trial court’s dismissal of the case.
