Weight Loss Drugs Recalled for Unsafe Substance

All lots of Slim Fortune, Lidiy and Slim Expert weight loss dietary supplements have been recalled as they contain an undeclared substance known to “substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate” in some consumers, the Food and Drug Administration said Oct. 17.

The substance, sibutramine, may pose significant risks to those with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias or stroke. It also may pose life-threatening risks to consumers taking other medications, the FDA said.

Sibutramine, a previously approved controlled substance, was removed from the U.S. market in October 2010 because of safety concerns, the FDA said. ...
