Walgreen Co. tricked consumers into thinking its women’s multivitamin product didn’t contain gelatin by omitting the ingredient on the label, according to a new proposed class suit filed in a New York federal court.

The multivitamin “contains notable doses of gelatin,” but consumers wouldn’t know that from looking at the label, the complaint says.

The failure to disclose gelatin, which is an animal byproduct, on the product’s label has harmed consumers who unwittingly ingested the ingredient, the complaint alleges. Many consumers avoid gelatin because of allergies or religious, dietary, or moral convictions about consuming animals.
