Walgreens, the nation’s largest drug store chain, and four other companies sold skin peel products with a known carcinogen without providing consumer warnings as required under California’s Proposition 65, according to notices of intent to sue sent Oct. 6 by an environmental group.
The 60-day notice letters that the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) sent to the companies said the group will file an enforcement action unless they recall the products, which allegedly contain trichloroacetic acid, and provide “clear and reasonable” warnings on future products sold in California.
