VW, Owners Get Final Nod for Audi Direct-Shift Transmission Deal

Volkswagen Group of America Inc. and Audi owners secured a California federal judge’s final approval for a class settlement providing up to $12,000 in reimbursement for each owner’s transmission repair and extended vehicle warranties.

The nationwide class settlement covers owners of 2010–2012 Audi S4 and S5 vehicles. Consumers said a defect in the direct-shift gearbox transmissions, also referred to as S-tronic transmissions, causes clunky and hesitant shifting that creates dangerous situations because drivers can’t accelerate.
