Union Carbide Beats Ohio Man’s Asbestos Lung Cancer Claims

Union Carbide Corp. defeated claims that bulk asbestos it sold to another company for use in joint compounds caused an Ohio man’s lung cancer.

The widow of Jack B. Robinson didn’t present evidence that her husband was likely exposed to a Union Carbide product, the Superior Court of Delaware ruled Aug. 15.

Robinson established only the possibility of exposure to the company’s product, which is not sufficient to proceed, the court said.

Robinson introduced a formula card showing that the Union Carbide asbestos was included in joint compounds that Georgia-Pacific manufactured at its Chicago facility.
