Settlements calling for Toyota Motor Corp. and three other automakers to pay consumers $554 million over allegedly defective Takata Corp. air bags got final court approval Nov. 1.
Toyota, Subaru Corp., Mazda Motor Corp. and BMW will also implement an “outreach program” to notify owners about the recall and fix the vehicles.
It’s in the public interest for that program to begin “as soon as practicable,” if it hasn’t already started, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida said (In re Takata Airbag Prods. Liab. Litig., S.D. Fla., No. 1:15-md-02599, 11/1/17).
