Texas Man Alleges Hydroxycut Supplement Caused Kidney Failure, Muscle Wasting

HOUSTON—A Texas man who suffered kidney failure after ingesting Hydroxycut sued Iovate Health Sciences Group Inc. Nov. 11, alleging it made false and misleading claims about the weight loss supplement (Lacy v. Iovate Health Sciences Group Inc.).

Wayland Lacy asserted that Iovate Health Sciences Group Inc., headquartered in Oakville, Ontario; and subsidiaries including distributor Iovate Health Sciences USA of Blasdell, N.Y., were negligent in the design, manufacturing, marketing, and sale of Hydroxycut. Lacy also charged Iovate Health Sciences Group with breach of express and implied warranties and violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
