Teva, Others Say Paragard IUD Cases Should Proceed Individually

Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc., Cooper Cos. Inc., and related companies urged the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation not to combine dozens of personal injury actions involving the Paragard intrauterine contraceptive device, saying the suits have too many differences to merit a single proceeding.

The lawsuits name multiple defendants that manufactured and sold the Paragard T-380A IUD in the U.S. at different times, the companies said in an Oct. 23 filing to the panel.

Plaintiffs allege the device broke and lodged in the uterus when their doctors attempted to remove it. Some needed surgery.
