Target Can’t Shake ‘Clean’ Beauty Logo Deception Class Action

Target Corp. failed to convince a federal judge to dismiss a proposed consumer class action alleging its “Target Clean” program that identifies certain beauty products as free from unwanted chemicals is misleading because the products actually contain some of the banned ingredients or similarly harmful ones.

The consumers’ allegations are “unique” compared to other product cases targeting manufacturers’ representations because the complaint against Target is “about a well-known retailer alleged to have independently curated a selection of products” rather than representations on a singular specific product, the US District Court for the District of Minnesota said Wednesday. “In other words, ...
