Smokeless tobacco company Swedish Match AB made illegal claims about its popular oral nicotine product, California politicians told the U.S. Food & Drug Administration this week. They requested the agency revoke the company’s permission to market its products in the U.S.

Jerry Hill, a democratic legislator in California’s assembly, said in an Aug. 17 letter to the FDA that Swedish Match claimed its Zyn nicotine pouches could help smokers quit -- part of an effort to exempt the product from a state bill to ban the sale of flavored tobacco.
