Supplement Maker Settles Over Allegedly Fake Amazon Reviews

Cure Encapsulations Inc. has settled FTC allegations that it deceptively advertised weight-loss supplements, including by buying fake reviews that appeared on Amazon.com.

Cure Encapsulations agreed, in exchange for a $12.8 million judgment, most of which is suspended, to stop making weight-loss and health-related claims about Quality Encapsulations Garcinia Cambogia Extract with HCA, unless it has scientific substantiation.

Cure Encapsulations and its owner, Naftula Jacobowitz, also agreed in the deal with the Federal Trade Commission not to misrepresent any endorsement as truthful or by an actual consumer, the order in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York ...
