State Farm Fails to Tie Hoverboard Batteries to Samsung in Suit

Home insurer State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. lacks proof that two hoverboards blamed for a house fire contained any batteries made by Samsung SDI Co., a federal court in Mississippi ruled.

An emailed Amazon receipt for one of the devices, describing it in part as “w/ Samsung Battery,” is inadmissible as hearsay for the purpose of showing the description’s truth, Judge Michael P. Mills said Thursday, calling the issue “novel.”
