A class action settlement valued at more than $25 million between Spartan Race Inc. and race participants over allegedly deceptive fees withstands objections that it merely provides “coupons” to class members and merits final approval, a federal court in Florida ruled.
The merchandise vouchers and free four-month subscriptions offered under the deal don’t require class members to spend more money to obtain a discount, as coupons do, the court said. They also don’t require recipients to conduct any further transactions with Spartan Race, Judge Beth Bloom said Thursday for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
