Sparta Insurance Fails in Bid to Escape Asbestos Exposure Claims

Sparta Insurance Co., which allegedly insured a group of Huntington Ingalls Inc. executives who ran an Avondale, La., shipbuilding facility, must face claims that the officers played a role in fatally exposing a worker to asbestos.

There’s evidence indicating nearly all of the executives “may have had some role in the safety program at Avondale” while Michael Dandry Jr. worked there in 1971, precluding summary judgment, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana said in a Feb. 13 order.
