Social Media Addiction Lawsuits Should Be Combined, Users Say

Lawsuits against Meta Platforms Inc. and other companies alleging that Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms cause addiction and mental health harm in adolescents should be consolidated into a single action, an attorney for the lead plaintiff told the US Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation Thursday.

The lawsuits followed a former Facebook employee’s testimony to Congress that Meta and related companies were aware of their products’ harm to users.

Meta’s predominance in the litigation was at the center of comments from plaintiffs’ counsel and defense counsel alike about which cases should be included in an MDL.
