Snapchat Faces Suit Tying Speedometer Filter to High-Speed Crash (1)

Snapchat Inc. must face claims by a brain-injured man who alleges a Snapchat user crashed into his car while trying to get the app’s speedometer “filter” to record her going over 100 miles per hour.

Federal law doesn’t protect the company from the suit, which alleges the filter encourages unsafe driving, the Georgia Court of Appeals ruled June 5.

Social media companies and cellphone makers haven’t been found liable for auto accidents, lawyers told Bloomberg BNA.

The appeals court reinstated the claims, which had been dismissed by a trial court.
