Sephora Defeats Deceptive Marketing Claims Over ‘Clean’ Products

Sephora USA Inc. defeated a consumer’s proposed class action alleging products labeled “Clean at Sephora” were deceptively marketed because they contained synthetic or otherwise harmful ingredients.

Though Lindsay Finster alleged customer’s who see the “clean” beauty label expect those products to be formulated without harmful ingredients, “Sephora’s marketing materials and labeling do not claim that their cosmetics are free of all synthetic or harmful ingredients,” the US District Court for the Northern District of New York said Friday.
