Zoox Inc. is providing a voluntary safety assessment of its self-driving technology to U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ahead of its robotaxi service planned for 2020.
The report was co-authored by Mark Rosekind, Zoox chief safety officer and former NHTSA administrator during the Obama administration.
Zoox is developing self-driving software and hardware and plans to build its own all-electric, self-driving cars. Cars will be bi-directional and have four-wheel steering.
Additional details about new vehicle systems and consumer service will be released in an updated report nearer to the commercial launch, Rosekind said in an interview.
