Samsung Trims Claims in Overheating Galaxy Laptop Lawsuit

Samsung Electronics America Inc. convinced a judge to toss most warranty and deceptive trade practice claims from a proposed class action accusing the company of knowingly selling Galaxy laptops that had an overheating defect.

The US District Court for the District of New Jersey on Thursday dismissed Haley Williams’ claims brought under New York laws, because the terms and conditions of the laptops’ sale—which points to New York law—don’t apply to her allegations.
