Samsung Plasma TV Class Settlement Gets Final Approval

Samsung Electronics Co. and California plaintiffs who allege it didn’t make parts available to fix their plasma televisions won a federal court’s final approval of a class settlement that provides refunds or exchanges.

The attorneys’ fee award of $487,000 is also reasonable, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said. But it slashed the plaintiff’s incentive award, calling the $6,000 request “extremely unreasonable.”

Consumers alleged their TVs developed colored lines through the displays, and said Samsung stopped providing replacement parts to authorized repair shops.
