Rider Injured by Runaway Horse Assumed the Risks of Horse Racing

An Indiana horse racing track and the owners of a horse that caused a collision when it broke loose during a training run aren’t liable to an injured thrown rider who knew the risks of riding, the Indiana Court of Appeals ruled.

Civilo Cruz can’t proceed with negligence claims against the track owner, New Centaur LLC, because it owed no duty of care to Cruz, who assumed the risks of the inherently dangerous sport of horse racing, the court affirmed.
