Rent-A-Center Settles Overcharging Claims for $13 Million

Rent-A-Center Inc. will pay $13 million to settle a class action by more than 100,000 California consumers who allege the company improperly tacked on freight charges to the costs of goods shipped to its California stores.

The fund will be used to reimburse people who transacted in California for a rent-to-own item that was shipped to the store by RAC subsidiary National Product Services LLC and was improperly allocated a $23 up-charge.
