A class settlement to resolve litigation over allegedly defective trigger mechanisms on 7.5 million Remington rifles looks likely to be affirmed despite an extremely low number of gun owners responding to the deal’s offer of repairs.
That low claims rate doesn’t imply the rifle owners weren’t aware of the settlement, and isn’t a sufficient justification for overturning the deal, a panel of three judges for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said at oral argument Feb. 14.
