P&G, Consumers Get Final Nod for Benzene-in-Deodorant Settlement

Procter & Gamble Co. and consumers who alleged it didn’t disclose benzene contamination in some antiperspirants have finalized a class settlement that provides several million dollars to claimants and requires testing of raw materials and finished products.

The nationwide deal, approved June 16 by Judge Michael H. Watson of the the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, covers persons who purchased affected products between Nov. 4, 2015, and Dec. 31, 2021.

Claimants could opt for a cash payment of $3.50 per item—roughly 70% of the average retail price—or a voucher for a replacement item.
