Poultry Plant to Pay $205 Million in Water Pollution Deals (1)

Mountaire Corp. settled Delaware state officials and residents’ groundwater pollution allegations Monday with two multimillion-dollar agreements in federal district and state courts.

The company’s wastewater treatment capabilities didn’t keep pace with its expanding poultry processing operations, increasing nitrogen pollution in their groundwater, the residents alleged. Mountaire agreed to update its wastewater treatment plant to reduce the pollutants it releases into the environment in a $140 million consent decree with the state, finalized in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
