Plaintiffs Urge Approval of $800,000 Kroger Bread Crumb Deal

Kroger Co. consumers told a California federal court that an $801,000 settlement in a trans fat class action over bread crumb labels provides an excellent recovery for class members and didn’t result from collusion between attorneys.

Shavonda Hawkins alleged the grocery chain deceptively marketed Kroger Bread Crumbs as having “0g Trans Fat Per Serving” when they were made with partially hydrogenated oil, a type of trans fat.

The court in 2020 certified a class of California citizens who bought affected bread crumbs between Jan. 1, 2010, and Dec. 31, 2015. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit denied ...
