Pet Owners Urge Nod for $6.38 Million Midwestern Pet Foods Deal

Pet owners urged a federal court to approve a $6.38 million class settlement resolving allegations that Midwestern Pet Foods Inc. and Nunn Milling Co. marketed contaminated food that sickened or killed animals.

The companies recalled Sportmix and other dog and cat food brands in 2020 and 2021 because of possible salmonella or high levels of mold-borne aflatoxin.

Lawsuits by owners whose pets allegedly became ill or died, and by consumers seeking refunds for allegedly worthless products, followed the recalls.
