Panera Says ‘100% Clean’ Doesn’t Mean Bagels Are Herbicide-Free

Panera LLC told a federal court in California that a false advertising suit should be dismissed because no reasonable consumers would think “100% clean” means its food is free of glyphosate residue.

Brianna Tabler’s would-be class suit alleges she bought whole grain bagels that had traces of the weedkiller, rendering the labeling deceptive.

But Panera’s advertisements clearly define “100% clean” to mean no artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, and/or colors, it said in a filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
