P&G’s Tide Containers Overpromise Capacity, Consumer Alleges

Procter & Gamble Co. deceptively portrays how much laundry a single container of Tide can clean, a New York consumer alleges in a proposed class action.

A 2.72-liter bottle is marketed as enough for 64 loads of laundry, according to a suit filed Nov. 25 in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The number 64 “grabs the purchaser’s attention,” but difficult-to-see markings on the bottle and the fill-cap show that larger loads of laundry demand more detergent, Aja Adeghe alleges.
