P&G Deal Settling Benzene-in-Aerosol Lawsuits Gets First Nod

Procter & Gamble Co. and consumers secured a federal judge’s preliminary approval for a class settlement providing millions of dollars and injunctive relief to resolve lawsuits alleging the company failed to disclose that certain antiperspirant products were tainted with benzene.

The litigation followed a November 2021 citizen petition by independent testing lab Valisure LLC, asking the Food and Drug Administration to recall numerous spray antiperspirant and deodorant products which the lab found to contain elevated levels of benzene, a human carcinogen.
