Oreos Deceptively Touted as Made With ‘Real Cocoa,’ Suit Says (1)

Mondelez International Inc. deceptively markets original, double stuff, and numerous other Oreo cookie varieties as made with “real” cocoa, a new suit alleges.

But contrary to the labeling, Oreos are made with cocoa that’s Dutch-processed, meaning processed with alkalai, the suit says.

The Dutch process involves washing cocoa beans in an alkaline solution before roasting or grinding, which produces a cocoa powder that is darker brown and less acidic than non-processed or natural cocoa, the suit says.
