A settlement resolving a consumer challenge to “Imported from Italy” labeling on Filippo Berio olive oil won final approval July 7 over objections (Kumar v. Salov N. Am. Corp., 2017 BL 235645, N.D. Cal., No. 14-2411, 7/7/17).
Under the terms of the deal, Salov North American Corp. will pay $210,985 to 53,000 class members who made valid claims. Salov will also change its label to “imported” to reflect the fact that the olives are grown and pressed in other countries and only processed in Italy.
