Nuk Didn’t Warn of Humidifier Explosion Risk, Man Says

A Nuk USA Inc. humidifier exploded with boiling water and burned a New York resident when he was trying to disinfect it, a new complaint alleges.

Thaddeus A. Carlton Jr. didn’t want to use the chlorine-and-tap-water method given in the product instructions because he and his fiancee were “new parents and organic consumers,” according to the complaint.

Using boiling water instead, he sealed the “NUK with Bionaire” Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier’s tank and began to swish it around, he alleges. The unit became pressurized and exploded in his arms, causing first-, second-, and third-degree burns to his chest and left ...
