Nissan Wins Dismissal of Punitive Claim in Exploding-Airbag Case

Nissan Motor Co. and its North American affiliate won a fight over punitive damages in an exploding Takata airbag injury case in Louisiana.

Punitive damages aren’t available for Louisiana resident Sabra M. Wilson and her husband, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana ruled June 20.

An airbag in the 2006 Nissan Sentra allegedly “deployed violently” into Wilson during a fender-bender with another car, when traffic was backed up because of a marsh fire, the court said.
