NiSource Inc. agreed to pay $143 million to settle lawsuits related to a series of deadly explosions on its natural gas network that rocked several towns north of Boston in September.
The amount is part of a $1 billion fund for claims related to last year’s Merrimack Valley incident, the utility said in a statement Monday. The Sept. 13 blasts erupted in the towns of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover, killing one person, injuring more than two dozen and damaging homes and buildings.
