NHTSA Launches Database Allowing Public Search of Recalled Vehicles

A vehicle identification number search tool now active on NHTSA’s website allows car owners to find out if a specific make and model of a vehicle has been recalled.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the availability of the VIN search tool on its www.safercar.gov website Aug. 20. It was also the date that all major car manufacturers were required to have a VIN search tool available on their own websites, as part of an August 2013 NHTSA early warning reporting final rule (79 Fed. Reg. 144) 158 DER A-19, 8/15/13.
